Week 3

So I just got back from my checkup. The bone looks almost the same not much improvement. My Doctor said it's not unusual. In adults it can take about 3 months to heal. That kinda sucks!

Overall I am feeling a lot better. I don't have to take pain medication, but have to be careful when I move around. I got for walks 5 times a week.

The sling is getting painful, I wear them only I move around. The sleeping is a challenge. I have to find the right position to rest my arm and make sure it doesn't move around too much.

2nd Week

S o I am 2 weeks into my injury. I went for follow up at St. Francis and was told it will take 3 weeks for bones to form together. It does hurt during the healing.

Well hurt is understatemnt, it's absolutly painful. I have gone thru 2 bottels of Ibuprofen. the worst is lseeping, since i have to lie on my back it hurts a lot. I haven't had agood njight's sleep.

I also invest in a fancy arm sling, it gives much better support. At work everyone makes fun of sling.
So Did a customer beat you up?
Well, that's what happen when you go to a bar and pcik up the bar tender's girl-friend etc.?

1st Week

OK, it's been a week now and I am going thru roller coaster ride. I wa feeling great timm Monday, aprtly due to the fact I was at home and in my bed all the time. Since Monday I am back to work and i can feel the daily grind of working and movement in my arm.
I also went to the doctor ad the collarbone is healing but will take at least 6 weeks to heal. I can probably start walking and some PT in 2 weeks.

first day

I am about to go to bed and wanted to share my 1st day of life with sling! the morning was awful, i couldn't open the jars of cereal so i went out for coffee and brioche. (can't eat bagels yet, it took a while getting used to dressing with one hand.

Undressing is easy (like you didn't know that ;-)) remove from the right side that is not hurt over the head and slide it down the left side (the side that is hurt).
drssing is trickey. Long sleeves t-shirts are better than other clothes, loose clothese erasier to slide in and out than othes! jeans with zip fly are easier than buttons.

after the afternoon nap i decided to take shower and shave. showering was easy, but drying off can be tough. buy basic towels and not the thick egyptian cotton towels. using shampoo was tough, i used the right hand to put shamppo on head and used the left hand to lather.

Shaving was even more fun. I use the edge shaving gel. I had to squeeze it on the sink and pick up with right hand apply it to my face. Using the razor was easy. I would recommend buying electric razor/shaver. brushing teeth with eletric toothbrush is easy.

I am about to go to bed, I am amazed how quickly my body is adapting to just using right hand. It reminds me of simpson episode where homer get one dumbell and uses it for just the right hand.

Anyway have a good night!

Broken Cavicle

ok, so I decided to go for a bike ride on tuesday. I left my house and while riding on 9th ave. between judah & irving, my bike wheel got stuck in Muni track. As I tried to get out, my bike went out of control and ejected me at 15 mph on the street.

I landed on the street on my left shoulder and right away I knew I had done some damage. I had extruciating pain and couldn't move my left arm. I called my friend Paul who took me to ucsf ER.

In spite of all the bad thing people say about UCSF this place rocks. I was in and out in over an hour, they did the checkup, x-rays and told me I had broken cavicle. I was put on sling and of I went home.
